Taiwan–Japan Deep Tech Investment Partnership

The National Development Fund of Taiwan (NDF) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Kyoto University Innovation Capital (Kyoto iCAP) to strengthen Taiwan–Japan venture collaboration.

  • This is NDF’s first-ever investment in a foreign university-affiliated venture fund, advancing its global Bridge Program.
  • The fund primarily supports startups commercializing research from Kyoto University, with plans to expand across other top Japanese national universities and R&D institutions.
  • It will focus on deep tech sectors such as semiconductors, robotics, advanced materials, net-zero technologies, and quantum computing.
  • Kyoto iCAP currently manages ¥34 billion across two funds, demonstrating its leadership in academic venture commercialization.
  • The new fund will also welcome investment from Kyoto University and private corporate partners.

This partnership marks a milestone in Taiwan–Japan innovation finance, bridging scientific excellence and venture scaling across borders.
